Unusual WWII Era Rensie Stop Wrist Watch With Hack Set Feature

Great looking vintage Rensie wrist watch with hack set feature, C1942. This Rensie "stop" model will stop running when the crown is pulled out, and resume when pushed back in. The feature allows the wearer synchronize the time setting with other watches. This model is a nice example of the military "style" wrist watches that were marketed to the civilian population of the era. Rensie (simply Eisner spelled backwards) was the trademark of Paul V. Eisner & Co., New York, an importer and wholesaler of Swiss watches. Please visit my store to see other WWII era time pieces, just go to affordablevintagejewelry.com .

Vintage Watches - Wyler Watch Company - Dynawind

Wlyer watches, a friend of mine says the name reminds her of lemonade. Sometimes this is about the amount of respect this watch brand is given. But even though their name is not as well know as other watch brands of the 1920's to the 1960's they made a very good timepiece. I am particularly fond of their Dynawind models. The Dynawind models have a high quality automatic or self-winding movement. When I first started collecting their watches I did not even know that "Dynawind" meant automatic. Almost all other brands simply put the word "Automatic" on the dial.

The styling of most of their timepieces tends to be more plain than fancy, but this makes for a rugged everyday watch. A 1957 ad proclaims "Best-protected watch on the farm". Wyler's technical innovations, such as their Incaflex shock absorbing balance wheel and patented water-resistance system, made this no idle boast. At Affordable Vintage Jewelry we often have vintage Wyler watches for sale.

Best Watch Sites on the Web

I thought I'd post about some of my favorite watch sites on the net. I visit them often in search of information or just to look at the wonderful array of vintage watches. If you have a vintage Bulova or Gruen watch you must visit the three sites listed below. Alan's web sites showcase his wonderful, eclectic collection.

  1. http://www.mybulova.com/ - Great examples of Bulova craftsmanship, vintage advertising, and help dating your watch.
  2. http://www.pixelp.com/gruen/index.html - The history of the Gruen watch company. This site will help you date your watch and possibly find the model name.
  3. http://alanwatch.homestead.com/ - Alan's quirky collection of off-brand watches. His motto is "Whether they're fine and elegant, strange or weird, or just plain ugly, they're all nice...". Lots of vintage watch fun here!
  4. http://timex.homestead.com - Alan has a second site devoted to vintage Timex watches. A Timex chronograph?
  5. http://www.tascione.com/source.htm - Site for learning how to repair watches.

Vintage Men's Watch - 1951 Bulova Gold Filled Mechanical Wrist Watch

Here's one that sold a while ago but this post will save it to the archives. I loved the large size, Art Deco styling, and the roman numerals. Other than the slightly aged dial, it was in near mint condition.

The case measured almost 1" wide by 1-5/8" tall (lug to lug), and was marked "10K Rolled Gold Plate Bulova L1" (Bulova's date code for 1951).  Check out other great vintage watches by Bulova at affordablevintagejewelry.com .
